The house is a Mansard style construction built in 1978. The style is French in nature, which is quaint enough. The real advantage to the building type is space. It's basically a big rectangle and you get full sized rooms on every floor. You won't get that with most colonial homes where the roof slants into the upper floors and quickly crowds out a lot of good space.
The lay out of the space is mostly open. The view in the picture here is almost from end to end. You see the formal living room at the end but your view is from the great room passing through the breakfast area, kitchen and formal dining room. The kids love this passage as a runway; its also ideal for entertaining because no matter what room guests are in they never feel cut off from everyone else. At the same time you are in individual rooms and can have individual conversations.
