5Rendering world music into caribean danceFeb 20, 2009
Umalai is one of the best -if not the best- 'world music' records of 2008. It's not only the devotion of the producer, the quality of the booklet,... but the key element of a music record: the music inside. Outstanding voices, great songs rendering into the best dancing invitation for the dance floor or when you are resting at home's sofa.

5soothing, rhytmic, wonderfulDec 31, 2008
I like this CD so much.. makes me remember my childhood and going 'fedu' with my mom.. and my favorite song is "nibari" reminds me so much of my grandma and what every garifuna grandma would tell her grandaughter.

5I'm obsessed with it...Oct 06, 2008
I heard a couple songs from this CD at Belize in August. I got it and also another one by Andy Palacio. Ever since there havent been a day in wich i didnt listen to at least one song from Umalali.

The production is unbeliavable. You FEEL what the Garifuna Women are saying.
Take a minute to listen the track "Hattie". I don't know what it actually says, but knowing Hattie was an incredibly destructive hurricane in Belize a long time ago, and listening at the strong voices and powerful music you get the sorrow and pain from those hard times.

5Excellent!Jun 13, 2008
Another great project from the Garifuna people. Don't have the CD in front of me, but kudos to the producer. Shared the CD w/a co-worker of Belizean descent (her mother grew up not far from the locale mentioned in the liner notes) and she loved it! Just all around great music. Too bad Andy Palacio isn't around to hear this CD's praise.
