Native cultures from Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Europe and the Americas all have traditions that give significance to the owl. In China owls are associated with lightning and thunder. Lei Gong, the Chinese God of thunder has a human body with the beak, wings and claws of an owl. His image can still be found in many Taoist temples. The owl's screech and quick streaks across the night sky are likely the origin of this association. In terms of Feng Shui the owl is a powerful symbol of yang and it's likeness can be used to off set strong yin energy. It is also said that placing an owl figure in each corner of a house will protect it from lightning.
