This brush rest is hand carved from Qingtian black mountain stone from caves in Zhejiang province. The stones from this region have been deftly carved for more than 1500 years by Chinese artisans. The stone is valued for it natural beauty and is used to make signature "chops" as well as figure carvings. This simple but elegant brush rest has two "Fu Dogs," placed at either end for protection. The center of the rest is shaped like the Chinese character for mountain. This is a practical item for those practicing the ancient art of character writing or watercolor painting.
